दरअस्ल मेरे घरवालों को डर है कि उनकी सोने की चिड़िया कहीं उड़ न जाए।
“The truth is, my family is afraid their golden bird might fly away.”
This one line sets the tone. The heroine isn’t seen as a human with dreams — she is property, a prized possession, to be traded in exchange for money, comfort, or status.
“सोने की चिड़िया” (golden bird) — a poetic metaphor — subtly conveys that the girl is being sold in the name of marriage, and the family fears that if she runs away (for love, for choice), their "investment" is lost.
It’s a deep commentary on how families commodify daughters in the name of tradition or survival.
अपने आप को सोने की चिड़िया क्यों कहा तुमने?
“Why did you call yourself a golden bird?”
The hero is shocked. He sees her as a person, an artist, a soul — not as an object of sale. He’s disturbed that she has started to see herself the way her family does.
यही नहीं बता सकती, अगर कहीं आप समझ गए तो मुझे माफ़ कर दीजिए, और ना समझे तो मुझे भूल जाइए।
“I can’t explain it. If by chance you understand, forgive me. If not… then please forget me.”
This is the emotional peak of helplessness. She cannot say things clearly — maybe because of shame, maybe because of family pressure — so she leaves it to him to understand her silence.
This is female pain wrapped in grace — she asks neither for pity nor anger, just for understanding… or forgetfulness.
भूलने की शर्त तुम नहीं लगा सकती।
“You don’t get to set the condition that I forget you.”
His response — emotional and direct. He’s wounded but still holding onto hope.
He loves her too deeply to forget, and her calm detachment pierces him.
आप मुझसे ज्यादती कर ही रहे हैं।
“You’re still being unfair to me.”
A gentle but powerful pushback. She doesn’t want him to carry the pain or guilt.
By not letting go, he is unknowingly making it harder for her.
अपने फ़न के साथ भी इंसाफ़ नहीं कर रहे,
“You’re not being fair to your art either,
She respects his art so much that she says — don’t let it chain you.
जो फ़न तुम्हारे और मेरे बीच दीवार बन जाए। मैं उसे छोड़ना पसंद करूँगा।
if it becomes a wall between you and me.”
A deep line. Their shared artistic bond, which should have united them, is now a barrier.
A tragic irony.
“Then I’d rather leave it.”
He is ready to give up everything — even his identity, his passion — just to be with her.
A moment of complete vulnerability and surrender.

“I have great respect for your art, Salim Sahab.”
That “सलीम साहब” — formal, respectful — draws the boundary.
She admires him, but now it’s over.
It’s the final goodbye in dignified words.
लेकिन चाहती नहीं मुझे,
He says but you do not love me , she says आप से शादी नहीं कर सकती। खुदा हाफिज़।
“But I don’t want it… I cannot marry you. Goodbye.”
She uses firm, painful clarity.
She doesn’t say “I don’t love you.”
She says: I cannot marry you.
It's not a matter of heart, but helpless circumstances.
“खुदा हाफिज़” — final, polite, heartbreaking.
सुनो, अगर कहीं मुलाकात हो गई, पहचान लोगी मुझे,
सलाम ज़रूर करूंगी।
“Listen, if we meet somewhere again… you’ll recognize me, won’t you? I’ll definitely greet you.”
This is the part that tears your heart.
It’s acceptance of fate — no rebellion, no hope — just a dignified surrender.
She says she'll remember him, will show respect, but their stories have now gone separate ways.
