China Ends one child one couple policy

China Ends one child one couple policy

Chinese lawmakers passed a historic decision allowing all couples to have two children from January 1, 2016 ending its over three-and-half decades old policy

China officially ended its one child policy, allowing couples to have a second child

Reasons to change policy –
1-shrinking workforce
2-ageing population

The law was passed by the 159-member National People’s Congress Standing Committee

The NPC approval was a formality as the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC), headed by President Xi Jinping, had already approved an end to the policy in October.
