Pakistan cricketers Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif have been found guilty of two offences in the spot-fixing case.
Both Butt and Asif were found guilty on two counts –
1. conspiracy to accept corrupt payments
2. conspiracy to cheat
Pakistan Cricket Player Mohammad Amir had already admitted his part in the scam
Now Pakistan Cricketers Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif both face the jail term up to 7 years.
The Pakistani cricketers will remain out on bail until the punishment is fix its expected that in next few days the punishment will be given to them by court.
Last August Pakistan Cricketers Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif plotted to bowl deliberate no-balls during the Lord’s Test against England.
The "spot fixing" plot was orchestrated by Butt and sports agent Mazhar Majeed.
An under cover Journalist recorded sports agent Mazhar Majeed boasting of how he could arrange for Pakistan players to rig games.
Majeed was secretly filmed accepting 150,000 pounds ($242,000) in cash from the journalist.
On August 28, 2010: Police search the three players' rooms and find £2,500 in Butt's room, and £1,500 in Amir, notes which were marked by British tabloid News of the World
International Cricket Council anti-corruption tribunal in Doha also punished the trio who were involved in spot fixing scam.
1. Salman Butt was banned for 10 years, five of which are suspended
2. Mohammad Asif was banned for 7 years and 2 suspended
3. Amir was banned for 5 years
Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt and pace bowler Mohammad Asif became the first cricketers ever to be convicted for fixing a part of a match.
