Know Price of TV channels which Consumers have to pay from December 29th

TRAI’s new regulations pertaining to cable TV and DTH may increase our monthly tariffs and plans, by as much as 50% in some cases.

From 29th December 2018 the Trai order will take effect. cable TV and DTH plans and rates will change and they will be as per new TRAI order.

Currently Multiple System Operators or MSOs offer a bundled package of channels.
The MSOs such as Tata Sky or DishTV, Airtel, Hathway, GTPL etc choose random channels into a package, and offer it to consumers.

From December 29th 2018 we consumers will pay following price to watch a particular TV channel

MRP of pay channels, offered by Broadcasters to subscriber as reported to TRAI

The broadcasters cannot bundle free-to-air channels with pay channels and further any pay channel which is part of a bouquet cannot have a maximum retail price per month of above Rs. 19

Distributors to make bundles comprising only the free channels so that users, who do not wish to pay more than Rs 130 per month can opt for this. Further, distributors must offer these bundles in multiples of 25, with the maximum rate per 25 standard definition channels capped to a maximum of Rs 20.

A broadcaster cannot charge different prices to different distributors even if the intended subscriber base of such distributors is different.
