Explained Time line Iraq  39 missing Indians got killed Did BJP government lied with nation
A group of 40 Indian men were kidnapped by the Islamic State (IS) terror group in Mosul four years ago, and 39 of them shot dead.

Only one, Harjit Masih, survived by playing dead and later escaped Mosul by pretending to be a Bangladeshi. His version of events was consistently denied by the government, which said it had at least “six sources” that claimed the 39 were alive.

For 3 years BJP Government told to Indians that kidnapped 39 Indians were alive.

Now external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj announced Tuesday,March 20, 2018  that the 39 Indians missing in Iraq since 2014 were dead.

Below is the timeline when and what happened with 40 kidnapped Indians in Mosul.

Year 2014 -
June 6 -  Indians in Mosul start to call Indian embassy in Baghdad for help as per family members.

June 9 - According to Masih and the families of the 39 other men, the group begin to call the Indian embassy in Baghdad for help

June 10 – IS seizes control of Mosul.

June 11 - 40 Indian workers are kidnapped. They call up their families, inform them about the situation.

June 13 – From kidnapped men, two call the Indian embassy in Baghdad. They are reportedly told to have “faith in God”, and that they couldn’t be “offered much help at the moment as the 700 km distance between Baghdad and Mosul is under lockdown”.
The ministry of external affairs (MEA) is officially informed that the group has been kidnapped.

June 15 – Kidnapped people call the family members in India, families receive their last call.
June 15 - Thirty-nine men are believed to have been lined up and shot dead by IS men.

June 16 - A family member informs the press about the abduction.

June 18 - The government makes a public statement. The MEA spokesperson, citing International Red Crescent and other sources, says 40 Indian workers “kidnapped”. The government says they haven’t received “ransom demands”.

June 23 – Indian officials meet  Sole survivor Harjit Masih in Erbil.

July -  Sole survivor Harjit Masih is brought to India. And He is kept under detention.
He told to media  he was first sent to Bengaluru for two months, where he trained to become an electrician, then kept at a detention centre in Greater Noida for months.
He was sent home after being promised a job in Dharamshala in 10 days. After 10 days, he was asked to go to Dharamshala for a job, but to no avail. He returned home, and held a press conference soon thereafter.

November 27, 2014 - Sushma Swaraj announces Masih is in the “protective care of the government”, and that she has six sources confirming the other 39 men are alive. She later says she has eight sources.

Year 2015 -
May 14 - Masih holds a press conference at the Mohali residence of AAP MP Bhagwant Mann, and announces the 39 men were killed by the IS.
BJP Government, Swaraj again say the 39 men are alive.
May: Swaraj again says the 39 men are alive.

Year 2016 -
February 7 - The 39 Indians taken hostage by ISIS more than a year and a half ago from Mosul in Iraq are alive, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj told their families
Nothing happens, India forgets kidnapped 39 Indian men.

Year 2017 -
June 16 - The MEA says the 39 men are alive and unharmed, but no official demand has been made for their release.

July 9 - The Iraqi government officially retakes Mosul But  no word about the 39 men.

July 16 - MoS for external affairs, Gen. V.K. Singh (Retd), sends information from Iraq that the men are being held in Badush prison. Swaraj says she’ll get more information from the Iraqi foreign minister when he arrives in India.

July 22 – Everyone comes to know that in month of June Badush prison was demolished.

July 24 -  Iraq foreign minister Ibrahim al-Jafari arrives in India, says he’s not sure if the men are dead or alive.

July 27 -  Once again, Swaraj says she cannot declare the men dead until she has concrete evidence. Stating that she has reasons not to trust Masih

October 21 – BJP government announces it is collecting DNA samples from the families of the missing men, and a team will take the samples to Iraq to aid in their search.

Year 2018 -
March 20 - Swaraj announces the 39 men are dead. Deep penetration radars were used to find and exhume the bodies in Badush.
The DNA samples confirmed the identity of 38 bodies, while there was a 70 per cent match for the 39th. The mortal remains will be brought back to India soon.
Ms. Swaraj said that Gen. Singh will bring the bodies to Jalandhar and Amritsar first, and then travel to Himachal Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. Of the 39 dead Indians, 27 were from Punjab, four from Himachal Pradesh, five from Bihar and two from West Bengal, she stated.

Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj said on Tuesday that the families of the 39 Indians who died in Iraq were not kept in the dark, and that it was parliamentary procedure to inform the House of their death first.“Some kin of the victims have questioned as to why they were not told about the deaths before the Parliament,” Swaraj said at a press conference in New Delhi. “Since the Parliament is in session, it was my duty to first inform the House.”

The MoS Gen. Singh said he will “leave for Baghdad as soon as the process of identifying is completed.”

March 20 2018 -

Harjit Masih, the sole survivor on Tuesday said he had been maintaining for the last three years that all others had been killed
"I had spoken the truth," asserted Masih, resident of village Kala Afghana in Gurdaspur district of Punjab.
Masih said they were killed in front of my eyes and I had been saying all these years, wondering why the government was not accepting what he had said earlier.

In his statement, Masih told to media following -
Indians were working at a factory in Iraq in 2014. "But we were kidnapped by militants and kept hostage for some days," he said.On the fateful day, they were made to sit on their knees and the militants then opened fire upon them. "I was fortunate to have survived though a bullet hit my thigh and I fell unconscious," he said. After that he ran away and later came to India.

Now question is whom to believe Sole Survivor or BJP government ?
Think why the sole survivor Harjit Masih, lie to Indians, What he will get , He will get nothing from anyone by lying about dead Indians.
May be 39 Indians died in year 2014 but government of India took 4 years to find out and confirm that they died.
To much delay , Very slow action on part of BJP government.

If they have lied, it is smell pleasant. But until unless the demise was confirmed, they couldn't disclose also.Harjit Masih was though right, the govt.could not take it for granted. If the news was not totally correct as the number of victims could change, time could change, even the incident would have been fake, then also the govt would be blamed. so they might have waited for reliable news because an incident like this cannot be kept underground even if one tries. The foreign minister seems to be sincere at her work. Thank you for the info.

Lying to the Nation is unacceptable. At the same time the Govt. would have been in an awkward position because until unless the news becomes reliable with clear evidence, they cannot disclose the matter. If any news goes wrong then also whichever govt. it may be the govt. is answerable. Thank you for the info.
