When former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited to Pakistan to sign the Lahore Declaration in 1999 he said Pakistanis are kind and hospitable people.

At the end of the trip, where the Lahore Declaration was signed, Vajpayee said following about Pakistan, "We must now implement our various understandings in good faith. My visit is almost over. It was brief but substantive. I have been moved by the attention and hospitality extended to me. And the delegation of eminent persons who accompanied me. I thank Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif most warmly for this. I've invited Sahib and Begum Sahiba (Nawaz Sharif and his wife) to visit India at their earliest convenience and to give us a chance to repay the many courtesies and kindnesses that I have received. Jammu and Kashmir is one of the issues we are discussing within the framework of our dialogues. We will negotiate with sincerity on this and on all other issues. Thank you."
