Uttarakhand Ex. CM Harish Rawat wins floor test Democracy Wins

Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat won the trust vote that was conducted in the state assembly.

The floor test, also called a trust vote, was held to ascertain whether the ousted chief minister still enjoys a majority in the House.

The Congress's Rawat got the support of 33 of the 61 MLAs who voted.

Uttarakhand was under Presidents Rule since March 27, 2016.

The Centre government that is BJP Government imposed Presidents Rule in Uttarakhand saying Rawat lost his majority when nine congress legislators rebelled. The Congress party alleged that BJP government acted illegally in getting rid of CM Harish Rawat.

As Ex. CM won the trust vote now BJP government told the Supreme Court that Presidents Rule will be revoked in Uttarakhand.

Now Harish Rawat will again become the CM of Uttarakhand.

The Supreme Court of India said that Rawat will assume the office of Chief Minister of Uttarakhand as soon as the Central government revokes Presidents Rule.
He however need not take the oath of office again.

The supreme court said it would hold a hearing in September 2016 on the Central governments plea challenging the Uttarakhand High Court order that quashed Presidents Rule in the state on April 21, 2016.

The then Uttarakhand Chief Justice K.M. Joseph said that central government acted like a private party and dismissed the state government by invoking Article 356.
