Karnataka High Court

Former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa's assets were not found to be significantly higher than her known sources of income leading to her acquittal in the 19-year-old disproportionate assets case by the Karnataka High Court.

the Justice CR Kumaraswamy observed that assets were only Rs 2.82 crore more than her income which was a little more than Rs 34.76 crore.

The High court pointed out that Jayalalithhaa's income during the period which the case relates to was Rs 34,76,65,654 whereas her assets were worth Rs 37,59,02,466. So the assets were Rs 2,82,36,812 more than her known sources of income which is 8.12% more than what she earned.

Let us hope from now on the common citizens will also get the benefit of this ruling and every Indian citizen who got money below Rs. 2 Crore will not go to jail and he or she will not be considered a criminal by income tax department or ED or lower courts or any other court in India
