Rip Archie Comic Hero Archie to die in series Life with Archie #36
Since 1941 Archie is famous all over the world
Archie's first appearance in Pep Comics #22 on December 22, 1941, was drawn by Montana and written by Vic Bloom. With the creation of Archie
Archie Comics is also the title of the company's longest-running publication, the first issue appearing with a cover date of winter 1942. Starting with issue #114, the title was shortened to simply Archie.
The United States Postal Service included Archie in a set of five 44-cent commemorative postage stamps on the theme "Sunday Funnies", issued July 16, 2010.
The Archie stamp featured Veronica, Archie, and Betty sharing a chocolate milkshake.
Everybody has to die sometime. And in July, Archie Andrews, paramour of Betty and Veronica, will finally die saving a friend in the pages of "Life with Archie #36" — just in time for the 75th anniversary of Archie Comics.
Life with Archie #36" will be in comic book stores on sale July 16, followed by "Life with Archie #37" on July 23.
The 37th issue one week later will end the series.
Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater (son of Archie creator John Goldwater) told to CNN that
Archie dies as he lived -- heroically. He dies saving the life of a friend, and does it in his usual selfless way. Archie has always been a representation of us -- the best of us. Our strengths and our faults.
Writer Paul Kupperberg, with input from myself, has crafted an emotional, impactful and classic story that I know will survive the test of time. This isn't a random one-off or "what-if" story that we're doing as a gag. This is the story that we mapped out carefully and with much thought. This is the death of Archie as we see it, and we're treating it with that same level of gravitas and import. It's an once-in-a-lifetime event, and we are being very considerate about it.
