Sachin Tendulkar becomes first sports man to get Bharat Ratna another record set

The Prime Minister's Office told to media that Sachin Tendulkar, the master blaster cricketer who retired on Saturday after playing his 200th Test Match will get the Bharat Ratna.

Bharat Ratna is the highest civilian award in the country and Tendulkar is the first sportsperson to get it.

The Indian government informed in a press release, "Sachin Tendulkar is undoubtedly an outstanding cricketer - a living legend who has inspired millions across the globe.

During the last 24 years, since the young age of 16 years, Shri Tendulkar has played cricket across the world and won laurels for our country.

He has been a true ambassador of India in the world of sports.

That he has been honored with several awards is testimony to his extraordinary brilliance as a sportsman," the release added.

Tendulkar will be the first sportsperson to be honored with the award.
