USA Air Force One President Plane DC 9-32 on Sale Price $50,000

USA Air Force One President Plane DC 9-32 on Sale Price $50,000

Any aircraft carrying the President is assigned the call-sign Air Force One.

Aircraft carrying the Vice-President use the call-sign Air Force Two.

Currently 2 Boeing VC-25As - tail numbers SAM 28000 and SAM 29000 – specifically configured, highly customized Boeing 747-200B series aircraft are used as for the President of America

The twin-engined DC-9, which has served five presidents, is being put on offer for a reserve of $50,000 by GSA auctions.

The aircraft was manufactured by McDonnell Douglas, makers of fighter jets like F-15 Strike Eagle and F-18 Super Hornet.

The reserve price of $50,000 would only run President Obama's main presidential aircraft for a quarter of an hour.

The GSA is a government agency, established in 1949 to help manage and support the basic functioning of federal offices.

The GSA auction page states the aircraft was "part of Air Force Two, and may have acted as Air Force One".

However, the GSA's Twitter account was keen to exploit the presidential association,
Tweeting "We're selling an Air Force One (Harrison Ford not incl)",

The DC-9 also boasts full inventory of parts, conveniently located in North Carolina.

Bidding will open on May 15, and will close May 30.
