San Francisco for Kerry Drake United Airlines Delays flight so Drake can meet his dying mother in Lubbock Texas
USA –
Kerry Drake lives in San Francisco and mother lives in
Lubbock Texas.
His mother was suffering from rheumatoid arthritis for many
years but last 4 months her condition was not good, Drake knew about it.
On the morning of January 24, his brother called him to say
her time had come.
Drake got the message that his mother who had been sick was
dying.
To meet his mom last time and say last good-bye Drake was
required to catch two flights to make it to his mother’s bedside in time.
Therefore, Drake booked a United Airlines flight with only
40 minutes between connecting flights in Houston.
Drake caught the next flight from San Francisco to Lubbock,
Texas, via Houston.
United flight 667 was delayed leaving San Francisco.
When his first flight was delayed Drake thought, he would
miss his connecting flight to Lubbock, the last one of the day.
Drake started to cry in his flight and flight attendants
brought napkins for his tears and promised him they would do what they could to
help and they informed his problem of missing another connecting flight to the
Captain.
A flight attendant, Sofia Lares, tried to comfort him. “She
said she would do everything she could and brought extra napkins for my tears,”
Kerry says.
Another flight attendant, Lan Chung, asked Kerry flight
number and relayed it to the captain.
When drake’s first flight landed on airport, his connecting
flight had left the gate.
At least that is what he thought.
he started to run for
his connecting flight gate, when he was may be 20 yards away he heard the gate
agent say Mr. Drake We have been expecting you.
“That’s when I knew they had conspired to help me. She waved
me onto the plane without looking at my boarding pass.”
With the information from the flight attendants, the captain
had radioed ahead about Drake's situation, and the Lubbock crew had delayed
departure to get him on board.
He reached on time and even his luggage
The Houston ground crew made sure of it.
He made it to the hospital in time to see his mother.
"At one point she opened her eyes, and I think she recognized me,"
said Drake, who spent the night at the hospital. "Around 4 a.m. she had a
real moment of coherence, a last rally, although we didn't know it at the time.
It was the last time."
She died that morning.
United Airlines crew deserves five stars for their service.
