 HIV Prevention Truvada Pill for healthy people Recommended for Approval by USA FDA

A US advisory panel  urged US regulators to approve Truvada by Gilead Sciences as the first pill for prevention of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).



The Food and Drug Administration advisory panel recommended approval of the daily pill Truvada for healthy people
This is the  first drug shown to prevent HIV infection in healthy people


Studies have shown that people who take the medicine, Truvada, every day have a greatly reduced risk of infection.

After 30 years first time such pill will be in market.

The FDA is not required to follow the panel's advice, normally advice is accepted.
A final decision is expected by June 15.

Drug maker Gilead Sciences Inc. already markets Truvada as a treatment for people who are infected with HIV.


Dont take the pill without doctors suggestion and follow other methods for the prevention of HIV that is use of Condom.

The Food and Drug Administration on Monday approved the first drug
Gilead Sciences' pill Truvada as a preventive measure for people who are at high risk of acquiring HIV through sexual activity, such as those who have HIV-infected partners.

Last year study found that Truvada reduced infection by 75 percent in heterosexual couples in which one partner was infected with HIV and the other was not.
