Analysis Details MCD 49 Newly elected Councillors face criminal charges like murder etc

Out of 236 analyzed newly elected Councillors in Municipal Corporation for Delhi 2012 Elections, A total of 120 Councillors out of 236 analyzed i.e. 51% are crorepatis. BJP has 68 out of 121(56%) analyzed and INC has 30 out of 66(46%) crorepatis




Newly elected Councillors of BJP have average assets in excess of Rs 3.19 crores while those of INC have assets in excess of Rs 2.46 crores

Smt Satvinder Kaur Sirsa of Ward-103-Punjabi Bagh tops the list
with assets worth Rs.112 crores and is followed by Naresh Balyan an Independent of Ward 126-Nawada with assets worth Rs. 57 crores.

5 crorepati Councillors have not declared their PAN details even though it is part of the affidavit filed by them at the time of elections

2 Councillors analyzed in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi 2012 Elections are illiterate.

A total of 16(7%) Councillors out of 236 analyzed have passed only 5th standard or below.

A total of 93 (39%) Councillors (out of 236 analyzed) are graduate

A total of 6 Councillors of the 236 analyzed have declared their age to be less than 25 years old

A total of 13 Councillors out of the total analyzed are more than 61 years of age.

Delhi Election Watch has analyzed affidavits of 236 Councillors out of 272 in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi 2012 Elections. Out of these 236 Councillors analyzed, 49 Councillors or 21 % have declared criminal cases against them. BJP has 29 out of 121 (24 %), and INC has 14 out of 66 (21 %).
