Italian magazine 'Il Bollettino Salesiano' has nominated Archbishop of Guwahati Thomas Menamparampil for the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his initiatives to bring peace among ethnic communities of the North East.



In its June edition magazine published a 4 page story on Menamparampil titled as A Bishop for Nobel Prize'



The Salesian Archbishop is currently President of the Bishops ' Conference in Northeast India, while also chairs the Committee on Education and Culture, in the Episcopal Conference of India.

He also works on a continental level and in the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences (FABC); he leads the Commission for Evangelization. His work is greatly appreciated by all the Bishops of the continent.

Archbishop Menamparampil, who is also a Salesian His peace mission, began in 1996 between Bodo and Santal tribes in Assam.

During the last fifteen years, Menamparampil has successfully led seven major peace
Initiatives that

1.
between the Bodo and Adivasi groups (1996)

2.
between Kuki and Paite (1998)

3.
between Dimas and Hmar (2003)

4.
between Karbi and Kuki (2003)

5.
between Karbi and Dimas (2004)

6.
between Bodo and Muslim groups in Udalguri (2010)

7.
Rabhi and Garo (2011)

It is really wonderful to hear this. Whether he gets it or not, it is so good to know that someone has put so much effort into this troubled area and has been successful enough to bring about some peace in the region.
