Wikileaks founder and No.1 whistleblower and deserving candidate to win Nobel Prize Julian Assange have been awarded the Sydney Peace Foundation's Gold Medal for "exceptional courage in the pursuit of human rights".

In accepting the Gold Medal, Assange said, "The real value of this award and the Sydney Peace Foundation is that it makes explicit the link between peace and justice.

In last 14 years before Julian Assange only three people got this award.
The gold medal was awarded to the Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela and Japanese Buddhist leader Daisaku Ikeda.

According to the foundation, the award was given to recognize the need for greater transparency and accountability for governments.

“By challenging centuries-old practices of government secrecy and by championing people’s right to know, WikiLeaks and Julian Assange have created the potential for a new order in journalism and in the free flow of information,” said Prof Stuart Rees, director of the Sydney Peace Foundation and founding director of the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Sydney.

Bravo Assange! I think he was rated among the top three personalities in Time magazine too. We need such guts among journalists.
