After reading this list you can see that who is eligible to get the Bharat Ratna.

In India for every type of service and field there are different types of awards are given.

Now think legally or logically in which category you will put the game of Cricket.
For me game of cricket comes under the Sports category.

Does game of Cricket and Sachin Tendulkar come under following any of the category
1. advancement of Art
2. Literature
3. Science
4. in recognition of public service of the highest order

Remember Cricket is not our national game it is a game played by a company called as ICC and BCCI.

Sports awards are also given by government of India.

2.
the "Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy"

Deepa Praveen,,
thanks.
Do not be emotional.
Please tell me in which Category you will put the game of Criket.

Rachit April 06, 2011

Hi,a very intellectual post indeed and for the very same reaosn I'm not against or with the opinion of bestowing Sachin with this prestigious award. Yet politician like Indira Gandhi, who was the first in the country to legalize corruption, and his son Rajiv, who was the first to misuse CBI, were also awarded with this honour. And, all this rules and regulations are only on the paper to make the common people fool. If in the future at any time government will think that awarding Sachin can prove fruitful to them than not for once they will dare to read and go through this rule book.

Rachit,,
thanks.

SM,

These are guidelines. If Sachin is exceptionally good in cricket and with philanthropic work, why not.

sm,  April 06, 2011

A,
Thanks.
Please let me know the philanthropic work of Sachin.
For Great work of cricket there is another category there we got 4 options for Sachin Tendulkar.
I have mentioned that already.

Guidelines hold the status of law or say they are equal to law, government of India can not ignore them.

Hi SM! Thanks for presenting facts. People are making Sachin above India. Someone said,"It's not in the fortune of Bharatratna to be awarded by Sachin". something like that. I didn't know these facts. and Sachin is already honored by first Rajiv Gandhi khel Ratna award. Now some people may say sell this country for Sachin. You know they are saying Sachin has carried this country . Shame on such people they should be boycotted.

Mohinee,,

Sm, When I heard the buzz of Sachin and Bharat Ratna award..first thing came to mind - What is the requirement to get honored by Bharat Ratna award? Your post came in time with lots of details. Thanks.
I really don't know much about cricket and all I remember is cricket played before 10 years.. but over last few years so many new things got added and I always wondered how all these players allowed and supported commercialization of cricket?

Usha,,

The last thing I would want is strict guidelines for awards.

In my opinion, if strict guidelines are followed then no award should be given posthumously. Also I shall raise a question as to why give an award to X and why not to Y. Does it mean that X is better than Y. I will also insist on written statement from government as to why X is chosen and not Y.

Kirtivasan,,
thanks.
This happened with S.Bose and Bharat Ratna case.
our every law is like this full of loopholes and confusion without strict and clear language.

Totally agree with the argument of the blogger...people who are saying as the contribution of the person seems too high to get the award, but indeed it's not to amend the basics category to just give an award to a person...people must realized that a single person is not for grater than that of the prestige and things say basic idea can not mold for him if even it's molded than the person is already grater than the award than what it's purpose to give him.
