Legacy of the Song -
The refrain “Tu jo nahin hai to kuch bhi nahin hai” became a cultural touchstone in Pakistan.
It was later copied in Bollywood (Kumar Sanu in the 1990s, Glenn John in Woh Lamhe 2006), but the original belongs to S.B. John.
Even today, it is considered one of the most iconic Pakistani ghazals, often played on radio and in retrospectives.
“Tu Jo Nahin Hai” from the Pakistani film Savera (1959) is widely recognized as the debut song of S.B. John (Sunny Benjamin John).
It was his first playback performance, and it instantly became a landmark ghazal in Pakistan’s film and music history.
Kumar Sanu’s version of “Tu Jo Nahin Hai” was not part of any Bollywood film soundtrack.
It came out in the mid‑1990s as part of a private album, produced by Bappi Lahiri.
