AP Not State Government CBI court gives permission prosecute Prasada Rao and ex-minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana Rao

India
Andhra Pradesh

November 23 –
The state cabinet in November last year had rejected the CBI’s request to sanction Dharmana Rao’s prosecution.
the majority of the ministers of the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, refused  permission to the Central Bureau of Investigation to prosecute the state Roads and Buildings Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao.
A resolution to this effect was also passed by the state Cabinet meeting after a gap of 82 days.

Delay gives opportunity to destroy the evidence.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court allowed the investigating agency to prosecute Roads and Buildings Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao and former minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana under the Anti-Corruption Act.
The court also directed them to appear before it on Jan 31.

Allegation or Scam - The allegations relate to the allotment of 28,000 acres for the Vadrevu and Nizampatnam Ports and Industrial Corridor (VANPIC) project in Prakasam district.

The allegations against the jailed Venkata Ramana Rao were that as Infrastructure Development Minister he had taken decisions favoring the promoters of the project.

A Hyderabad based investor; Nimmagadda Prasad is the promoter of the VANPIC project
He is also investigated and he is in Jail currently.

The government of ex-chief minister Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had signed a memorandum of understanding with the authorities of Ras Al Khaimah of the UAE.

Suggested Reform - CBI should get the permission to prosecute elected politicians directly from Court, by presenting evidence before the court, which will save time and which will not give any time to corrupt people to hide or destroy evidence or pressure the witnesses.
