Gujarat Rs.400 Crore Fishing Contract Scam Governor gives sanction to prosecute Minister of State for Fisheries Purshottam Solanki

A petitioner, Ishaq Maradia told to media that Mr. Solanki granted fishing contracts in 2009 without any tendering process, and this cost the government Rs. 400 crore.

Maradia had moved the High Court in 2009 over the scam and accused Solanki of having given away fishing contracts for 58 reservoirs in the state, each spread over at least 200 hectares (2 sq. km), at rates below the price fixed in previous contract.

According to Maradia, contracts worth Rs. 40 crore per annum were awarded for Rs. 2.36 crore.
The contracts were renewed at such low rates for 10 years.

Maradia also sought registration of an FIR against Solanki under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his cabinet of ministers had earlier refused to sanction the minister's prosecution.

After that, matter went to the High Court.

the Gujarat High Court had ordered the state government and the Governor’s office to decide on the issue in three weeks.

As per the High Court order, the state government had submitted the file regarding the entire matter to the Governor on July 12

On June 29, in an affidavit in High Court Gujarat State Government stated that there was not sufficient evidence against the minister for his prosecution.

As Governor has given sanction now a criminal case of fraud will be filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

High Court ruled that Governor will take the final decision in this matter.

The Court ordered the Modi Government to send all the papers to the Governor regarding the alleged corruption, scam.

After studying the papers now Gujarat government, Governor Kamla Beniwal has granted sanction to prosecute Minister of State for Fisheries Purshottam Solanki for his alleged role in the Rs. 400 crore fishing contracts scam.
