Last year in the Month of May When foreign minister SM Krishna visited Malaysia he
He carried gifts on behalf of the Indian government for the dignitaries he was to meet.
The gifts were given to the Malaysian prime minister, foreign minister and home
Minister and others.
In internal investigations it was found that the
1. The gifts were of poor quality
2. the gifts billed to the government at highly inflated costs
3. Rules like buying from state emporia and not using private suppliers was not followed
List of the gift items its price and its quality –
The bill (no. P 1320, dated March 29, 2011) shows nakkashi silver bowl was bought from the Assam emporium.
Nakkashi silver bowl
Real original price = Rs.14315
Mea or Govt paid = Rs.40, 000 only
Quality of the gift = 64% purity against 92.5% purity
Silver Bowl –
Real original price = Rs.3000 only
Mea or Govt paid = Rs.7000 only
Quality of the gift = 80% purity against 95% purity
Silver Plate =
Real original price = Rs.16, 616 only
Mea or Govt paid = Rs.40, 000 only
Quality of the gift = Not Known
Still No one has got punishment in this case.
No one will get punishment in this case.
Only if someone files PIL or private complaint only then any one will get punishment in above case.
Is it first time or they always give such fake gifts?
Do you think now a new committee should be formed to investigate all the gifts which were made to foreign heads regarding the quality and price of the gift item.

Tatas, Birlas, Ambanis should have ensured that the gifts were genuine. After all so much business is involved. They should have given the utmost weight in these matters.

Hopeless. I am sure that if the same thing had happened in China, the officials would have got some strict punishment. I wonder how much lower we are going to stoop before we realize that we have a collective responsibility and ignoring it will affect us one day too.

Regarding china , when such corruption cases happen in China, the culprit is given death punishment within few weeks.
Why is no NGO or legal activist filing PIL? These people should go to jail or they won't stop.
