Pakistan Wins UNSC seat Joins India as UN Security Council
as a non-permanent member
Currently India is serving as a non-permanent member for the 2011-2012 term.
Now Pakistan has won the seat to the UN Security Council on Friday thus Pakistan joined India. This is 7th time Pakistan won the seat in UN Security Council.
Pakistan's term is for two years beginning January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2013
Pakistan got 129 out of 193 votes in the United Nations General Assembly, exactly the two-third majority required to win the seat.
Kyrgyzstan won just 55 the other opponent.
Pakistan was last on the Security Council in 2003.
Guatemala and Morocco were the other members who joined the 15-member council, five of whom are permanent members with veto powers.
Britain, China, France, Russia and United States are permanent members of the council.
The other ten are non-permanent members on two year rotations.
The last time India and Pakistan served together on the council was in 1977. With India and Pakistan on the council next year.
Media has reported that India voted for Pakistan.
As India has no foreign policy it’s not useful to comment why India allowed it to happen.
May be it’s a part of Foreign Policy like Playing Cricket which I do not understand.
In future we have to see that when India needs help of Pakistan will it help India or it will help China?

I think its a positive step by India, and its good that we have chosen to support them irrespective of whether they will support back or not. Generally they do and perhaps a favour could have been already negotiated.
I don't see any problem voting for Pakistan. Most countries decide on what USA, Russia or China says. Probably India was asked by USA.
Destination Infinity, thanks.Yes its possible may be favor was negotiated.
