Police Arrest American Female student -

Katie Leonard, a 23-year-old American woman student and her classmate Gourab Sarangi of Sambalpur, doing PhD in Physics in the USA, entered the 12th century to have a glimpse of the presiding deities.

As the woman student was dressed in a traditional salwar-kameez and covered her head, she was not recognised as a foreigner at the high-security Singhadwar.

After a glimpse of the 'parswadevatas', they entered the sanctom sanctorum for a darshan of the presiding deities - Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra - where they
were spotted by the priests.

The rituals at the temple came to a standstill after the priests and temple police took the two to the Sinhadwar police station for questioning.

After interrogation they would be handed over to the temple administration which would, in all probability, let them off with a nominal fine for violating temple rules, police sources said.

Temple rituals were affected as the deities were given a 'Mahasnan', a ritual for purification as non-Hindus are not allowed entry into the temple, Panda said.

I never understand how can a human begin destroy the purity of God.
Don’t you say all are brothers and sisters, there is only one God?
Here comes the reality where is the implementation of Constitution of India and Preamble.

Temples are not secular places like a zoo. None of the human rights of non Hindus are violated by the ban. Why can't the Hindus worship according to their traditions without non Hindus gawking at them, and going back and telling how hideous and fearful and satanic that deity is?

Water Engineer,,

for me every one is human i do not think some one is hindu or muslim.
I do not know what you think.

They wont let you in even if you are Registered Hindu© unless you looking like Indian. But on the contrary if you are non-Hindu dressed as a normal Indian in pants and shirts you may enter in you are Indian. The original idea was that only those who go there to worship would be let in after the appropriate purification give in the holy books. Unfortunately nowadays it became a ritual without any purpose, nothing more. Often event the priest not follow or even know such rituals.

Accepting Jagannath means what? accepting the rules and rituals of the temple which was decided by Sankaracharaya not the servitors.Let me remind again Jagannath temple is a place of worship not to experience.Mostly non Hindus enter to avail experience only without knowing rituals.so non Hindus should not dare to enter because previously Jagannath Temple has been looted seventeen times by these kind people and this type of history should not be repeated again. The very word CONVERTED HINDU is not within Hinduism. For them and fulfill their interest Lords appear on the chariot.

why the hell people are bothered to enter places where they are not allowed. It is a private place for Hindus and be it. There are so many Zoroastrian fire temples which do not allow non-parsi. And those who are lecturing about human values and all, better a make a temple themselves and leave the Jagannath temple alone

its not about being orthodox its about the purity of the place.loook in nonhindus there is no restriction of eating habits they even eat beaf .there is a purity of god not every1 can feel him or see him .for example we creating cartoons of god like anime movies ...the famous one is of lord ganesha showing him as a friend of a child and acting like as a human ..but the thing is god has a level to react and think ...you need to achieve a specific high level to feel him .the main garbha grah is a holy place that's why they try to protect.now you may say what's a problem if any non hindu wanna see a diety .there is no prob but for such holy places again you have to hold that level ...if you really wish to see him through your eyes then believe him he will show you the path ...as if you really wanna see then that american gal has seen god ...isn't that beautiful ...yup but i feel there should be arrangements that non hindus can also have an option to have a darshan if not at garbha grah then somewhere else through any medium like live tv or something...

You can be starry eyed idealist. But the world is not IDEAL. Indeed, there are non Hindus who ASSERT that they are not Hindus. Indeed there are non Hindus who assert that Hinduism is a SUPERSTITION. Why do they want to come to Hindu temples? Do they have some constititional right of entry? NO NO.

What sort of disaster? Will the non Hindus rise against the Hindus about the temple entry?

Sikhs do not permit ANY one barte headed, carrying tobacco, reeking of alcohol. THe dormitories[ dharamshalas] of Gurudwaras do not allow consumption of alcohol or meat, even if you close the doors of your room. Check it if you do not believe.

Sikhs are allowed entry into every temple.

most foreigners/non-hindus have no respect watsoever towards hinduism. this has been evident for past 1000years from muslim rule to british rule to post-independent india. they beleive their religion is true while others not and hence degrade/criticize anything related to other religions. this is true in case of most of non-hindus . so why shud we allow them into temples.
