Legendary Singer Sir Elton John and David Furnish officially married

Singer Elton John and longtime mate David Furnish officially married Sunday on the ninth anniversary of the day they entered into a civil partnership.
The couple converted their civil bond under new laws implemented in England earlier this year that allow same-sex marriages.

Elton John was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1998 in recognition of his charitable works.

John and Furnish met in 1993. Both have been active in a number of charities, with John focusing on efforts to combat the spread of HIV and AIDS.

Mr Furnish and Sir Elton, who have two sons, became civil partners in 2005.
