Name - Vinod Rai
He spent 35 Years in IAS
Following his retirement from the IAS in 2008, Rai was appointed comptroller and auditor general
He was appointed as Comptroller and Auditor General of India and after that CAG became the roaring tiger whom everyone started to fear and honest citizens started to love this tiger,
A rare breed of tiger who can find the corruption where no one can dare to look
Mr. Vinod Rai took over as the Comptroller & Auditor General of India on 7th January 2008
He will retire on May 22, 2013, the day before his 65th Birthday

He is currently chairman of United Nations Panel of External Auditors and member of the Governing Board of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI)

He did his schooling from Vidya Niketan - Birla Public School, BPS Pilani Rajasthan
After his father was posted in Sikkim, Rai was sent to a boarding school at age 14 at the
Birla School in Pilani, Rajasthan.
At Birla School, Rai was two classes senior to former army chief general V.K. Singh,

He graduated from Hindu College, University of Delhi.
He has a Master’s Degree in Economics from Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi and Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Harvard University, U.S.A.

He is married and has three children.
After Rai's wife died from complications due to asthma in 1990, he married Geeta, the widow of a colleague who had also died young, and a mother of two.

Mr. Rai is a 1972 batch Kerala cadre officer of Indian Administrative Service (IAS).

He started his career as the sub-collector of Thrissur District. Later he became the Collector and spent his eight years of career in Thrissur City. He was called the second Sakthan Thampuran for his role in the development of the Thrissur City.

He was the MD of Kerala State Co-operative Marketing Federation from 1977 to 1980
Later he was appointed as Principal Secretary (Finance) in the State Government of Kerala.

He had served senior positions in the Ministries of Commerce and Defense

Prior to his appointment as CAG, he served as Secretary, Financial Services, and Additional Secretary in the Banking Division including banks and insurance companies under Ministry of Finance.

Rai was instrumental in setting up the India Infrastructure Finance Company and was on the Board of this company.

Vinod Rai also worked as a director on several Boards including the State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, IDBI Bank, Life Insurance Corporation of India and Infrastructure Development and Finance Company of India.

As a CAG chief Vinod Rai produced the CAG Report on 2G scam, majority politicians said no corruption happened but finally telecom minister lost his Job and he went behind the bar.
The CAG report said the ultimate loss to the exchequer could be as high as Rs 1.76 lakh crore.

Coal block allocation, Delhi Airport and Commonwealth Games all CAG reports made the Headlines and brought in public domain the black deeds.

He figured as one of the Persons of the Year in Forbes magazine January 2011

In December 2011, he was chosen as the chief of UN external audit panel

In February 2012, CAG was complimented for professionalism, training, and infrastructure by its US counterpart

The service records of Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Vinod Rai “are not traceable”, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has revealed in response to an RTI application.

He is a keen tennis player and his other interests include cricket and mountaineering.

When he was still a trainee with no powers, he single-handedly retrieved the dead body of his district collector, who had been killed by militants,"
The body had been left in an isolated part of the area and no one was willing to go and collect it for fear of their lives.
So Rai just called over a government driver and asked him to drive without giving him any
It was only midway, where the road forked, that he told the driver to turn in the direction of
the place where the body had been dumped.
It was an act of extreme courage, considering the risk involved

He is straightforward, upright, and decisive and will stand by his fellow officer in difficult situations.

Rai said that he is accountable to the people of India and its Constitution, and not to the government.

As mandated by CAG guidelines, Rai holds a press conference at 5pm on the day he releases any
report to Parliament.

On May 22, Vinod Rai will retire

Just because of Vinod Rai and his honesty and strictness our Indian politicians are planning to make CAG a multimember body 

If CAG becomes Multibody member
India will never ever again get the tiger like person Rai in government department CAG
even if any tiger enters, he will not get free hand to catch, find, and expose corruption
There will be other loyal parrots they will speak and do what politicians say
