Chhattisgarh Maoists Attack Congress convoy Mahendra Karma and 17 killed

The attack took place around 5.30 pm when the Congress convoy, comprising more than 20 cars and ferrying nearly 120 Congress leaders and workers, was on its way from the party's 'Parivartan Rally' in Sukma to Jagdalpur, launched a month ago ahead of the state polls, due in November.

Nearly 500 Maoists rebels using mine blasts and bullets ambushed a Congress convoy in Chhattisgarh and killed at least 17 people, including Salwa Judum founder Mahendra Karma, and critically injured former Union minister Vidya Charan Shukla.

The battle continued for 2 hours in south Bastar’s Darbha valley, about 400km from Raipur.

The attack came a day before the Maoists’ Dandakaranya bandh in protest at the police killing eight villagers in Edasmetta last week

Former Congress MLA Uday Mudaliar was killed while sitting MLA Kawasi Lakhma was critical with a bullet in the head.

Rebels may have kidnapped State Congress chief Nand Kumar Patel and his son Dinesh

Salwa Judum founder Mahendra Karma was killed by rebels.
The group was accused of   atrocities on the tribals.

Media reported that The bullet-riddled bodies of Chhattisgarh Congress chief Nand Kumar Patel and his son Dinesh, who were kidnapped by Maoists, were found on Sunday along with those of eight others in Jiram valley in Bastar.
