Goa MLA Caetano Silva disqualified as Legislator reason Portugal citizen

Indian law does not allow dual citizenship any Indian who becomes a citizen of another country is deemed to have relinquished his or her Indian citizenship.

Union home ministry probe against the Goa Vikas Party MLA Caetano Silva  showed that he had acquired a Portugal citizenship in 2010.

As he has taken the citizenship of Portugal now he has lost his status as a legislator and now one if he wants to stay in India  he will need to apply for the visa also.

The home ministry is also probing a similar complaint received against Goa MLA Glen John Ticlo, who became a citizen of Portugal in 2006.

However, Ticlo relinquished his Portuguese citizenship after a formal complaint against him was filed

Home Ministry probe found that Former Punjab minister Avtar Henry had been a British citizen since 1969.
Having contested assembly elections six times and served as a minister twice,
Henry has since appealed against the ministry’s decision.

Henry had ceased to be an Indian citizen since 1969, when he obtained British citizenship and passport under the name of Avtar Singh.

Born in Kakkarkalan village of Jalandhar district, Henry, went to  London in 1960 with his brother and started a career as a taxi driver.

He adopted the name Henry and it was in the UK that he married Surinder Kaur, who hails from Shankar village in Jalandhar.

He acquired British citizenship in 1968-69

After that he returned to India former taxi driver in UK has become  owner of Kartar Buses and Transport Company, Moga, which runs a fleet of hundreds of buses and trucks in Punjab.

He was appointed chairman of the district transport cell in 1982-83 and contested the Assembly election on a Congress ticket in 1986, losing by just 1,200 votes.
He went on to win three straight elections — 1992, 1997 and 2002 — from Jalandhar (North) and served as minister for excise and taxation, industry, and food and supplies.

He lost in 2007 and 2012

He contested the elections in 1986, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2007 and 2012.
