Congress to Support 2G scam accused  Kanimozhi for second term in Rajya Sabha Upper house

Who is Kanimozhi?
Kanimozhi, the youngest child of DMK chief M Karunanidhi is an upper house member Rajya Sabha member and an accused in 2G scam.

She has been married twice; firstly in 1989 to Athiban Bose, a businessman from Sivakasi, and then to G. Aravindaan, a Singapore-based Tamil writer, in 1997

She was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2007, and serves on various Parliamentary committees.

She also owns 20 per cent stake in the Chennai channel Kalaignar TV that was allegedly the recipient of a Rs. 214-crore kickback in 2G scam
Kanimozhi is charged as a co-accused in the 2G scam and even spent time in Jail.

Kanimozhi was arrested by CBI for her involvement in the 2G spectrum scam in May 2011.

As per the chargesheet filed by CBI, Kanimozhi has 20% stake in her family-owned Kalaignar TV; her step-mother Dayalu Ammal owns 60% stake in the same channel.

CBI alleges that Kanimozhi was an "active brain" behind the channel's operations and she worked with former telecom minister A. Raja to get DB realty promoter Shahid Balwa to circuitously route 200 crore (US$36.2 million) to Kalaignar TV.

According to CBI, Kanimozhi was in regular touch with A Raja regarding launching of Kalaignar TV channel and its other pending works. CBI alleges that A Raja was further pursuing the cause of Kalaignar TV to get registration of the company from Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and for getting it in the DTH operator TATA Sky's bouquet.

She was also summoned by the Income Tax Department, Chennai for alleged tax evasion charges.

Congress officially announced that its five MLAs in Tamil Nadu would support its former ally the DMK's M Kanimozhi for a second term in the Rajya Sabha. This announcement ensures Ms Kanimozhi's re-election to the upper house. Her term expires next month.


Six Rajya Sabha members from Tamil Nadu would retire next month. 

As per the current position in the assembly, all four candidates of the ruling AIADMK and the sole Communist Party of India candidate are expected to romp home safely.
The contest will be for the sixth seat between Kanimozhi and DMDK's Elangovan.

This is another case which clearly shows and proves that India needs reform which will ban any person from contesting upper house or lower house elections if charge sheet is filed against him in a corruption case or rape case as both are same
