Lyrics with English translation of song Mere Naina Sawan Bhadon from Mehbooba
My eyes are like Sawan and Bhadon (monsoon rains),
Yet still my heart remains thirsty
Yet still my heart remains thirsty
My eyes are like Sawan and Bhadon (monsoon rains),
Yet still my heart remains thirsty
Yet still my heart remains thirsty
O crazy heart,
What does it know of this game?
From where does this pain-filled song
Come upon these lips,
And carry me far away?
Have I truly forgotten, or even in forgetting
Do I still remember you just a little?
Yet still my heart remains thirsty
It's an old matter, an old story
Now if I think of you, I don't remember
If I think I haven't forgotten, those swings of Sawan
Seasons come, seasons go, giving a false consolation
Yet still my heart remains thirsty
Years have passed since we met and parted
Like lightning flashing across the sky,
In the lines of past time, I saw you
Playing hide-and-seek with my heart—hope and despair
Yet still my heart remains thirsty
My eyes are like Sawan and Bhadon (monsoon rains),
Yet still my heart remains thirsty
Yet still my heart remains thirsty
This beautiful song expresses endless longing tears flow like endless monsoon rain, but the heart's thirst for love (or the beloved) never gets satisfied.
Mehbooba is adapted from the Hindi novel Sisakate Saaz (also spelled Sisakte Saaz, meaning something like "Sobbing Musical Instruments" or "Crying Melodies") written by Gulshan Nanda.
Theme of Reincarnation: The story revolves around rebirth and eternal love
R.D. Burman composed the soundtrack, with lyrics by Anand Bakshi.
The haunting song “Mere Naina Sawan Bhadon” was recorded in two versions
one by Kishore Kumar and one by Lata Mangeshkar. Both renditions became timeless classics.
