Announced by Election Commission
The Election Commission announced the dates for the Assembly elections in five states –
1. Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh will go for a seven-phase election; other 4 states will have one phase elections.
The elections will kick off from Manipur Jan 28.
Election dates for Uttar Pradesh – February 4, 8, 11, 15, 19, 23 and 28
Elections in Goa will be held on March 3.
On January 30 Polling will be done in Punjab and Uttarakhand.
Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Qureshi said that vote count will take place March 4 in all five states.
He said all airports, railway stations and bus depots would be under vigil to check the inflow of unaccounted money into the poll-bound states.
The 27 companies of the paramilitary will assist the ECI in monitoring election expenditure of the political parties.
27 companies = nearly 2,700 personnel
A total of 137 million people will be eligible to vote in all five states.
Uttar Pradesh alone accounts for 111.9 million voters.
Punjab got 117 seats has 17.4 million voters
Uttarakhand got 70 seats and 5.7 million voters.
Manipur got 60 seats and 1.6 million voters
Goa got 40 seats and has just one million voters.
As election dates are now announced now model code of conduct would come into effect immediately.
Now each candidate will be required to open a new bank account from which alone they can spend campaign money.
For the first time in India a 24-hour call centre would be operational to register poll related complaints.
