Real life romance mirrored on screen The film featured Rajesh Khanna opposite his real-life girlfriend Tina Munim (their affair had been rumored but kept under wraps).
During the Mauritius shooting schedule, their relationship reportedly intensified.

Shooting & Production
It was Saawan Kumar Tak’s first film shot outside India much of it was filmed in Mauritius, giving the movie a glamorous look unusual for that era.

Souten was a Golden Jubilee hit , running for more than 50 weeks in theaters.
