Civic Body Elections 2017, On the day of election results majority media was showing and shouting that BJP swept the Uttar Pradesh elections defeating all opposition parties.

The reporting was so high that I myself thought that BJP really destroyed, defeated all the opposition parties and they won nothing as good as zero seats.

But reality is something different.

Yes, BJP won but it did not destroy, defeated all opposition parties.

BJP won 14 out of 16 mayoral seats with Mayawati’s BSP winning Aligarh and Meerut.

Municipality Chief seats – 198
BJP won – 70
Independent won - 45
BSP won – 29
Samajwadi Party won – 45
Congress won – 9

Panchayat Chief Election – Total Seats – 438
Independent won – 193 seats
BJP won – 100
Samajwadi Party won – 83
BSP won – 45

Mayoral Seats –
BJP won 10 out of 12
Same as year 2012

Six months back in Assembly polls BJP won 317 seats and now if you compare this performance with civic polls one understands that BJP failed to get that success in 2017 Civic elections.
