What is the Get Windows 10 app?

Get Windows 10 is an app that’s designed to make the upgrade process easy. It checks to make sure your device is compatible, and it reserves your free upgrade; it also has information to help you learn about the features in Windows 10.

For devices running Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 Update with Windows Update enabled, the app shows up automatically as a Windows icon in your system tray at the bottom right-hand side of your screen.

Look at your Windows system tray in the lower right corner, and you should see a new icon displaying the Windows logo. Hover over it, and the popup messages says: "Get Windows 10."

4-
Click on the small Windows icon found at the right end of the taskbar. If you don’t see it don’t worry just enable windows automatic update feature and it will download the necessary files it may take time.

5-
Click that icon, and up pops a window that explains how the free upgrade works. Once it's available, Windows 10 will automatically download onto your PC.
You'll receive a notification after the download is complete so that you can choose an appropriate time to install it.

6-
The reservation screen asks for your email address so you can receive the notification. Enter your email address and click the Send confirmation button. You can now close the Get Windows 10 window.

7-
You’ll get a notification when your upgrade is ready later this year. This lets you schedule the installation for a time that’s convenient.

Yes, you can get a free upgrade for each of your eligible Windows devices. All you need to do is make a separate reservation for each device you want to upgrade.

13-
Why don’t I have the Get Windows 10 app?

If you don’t see the Get Windows 10 app on your PC, it might be because:

Your device isn’t up-to-date with at least Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 Update.

Windows Update is turned off or is not set to receive updates automatically.
You’ve blocked or uninstalled the necessary Windows Update functionality.
Your device is not running genuine Windows.

Running Windows Update and installing any available updates will fix the first three issues.

PCs that cannot run Windows 10 will not see the Get Windows 10 app before July 29, 2015.

After July 29, 2015, Microsoft will enable the icon in the system tray.
This is to help ensure that you can easily check your PC’s compatibility if you choose.
