US Gay Spy Case Dharun Ravi Guilty Jail up to 10 Years

New York –

Dharam Ravi age 20

Indian Ex.Rutgers student Indian American student Dharun Ravi accused of spying on his gay college roommate, Tyler Clementi faces up to 10 years in jail and deportation to India after a New Jersey jury found him guilty on all charges.

One of the witnesses testified that he had helped Ravi adjust the webcam to focus on Clementi's bed.

Later Clementi came to know about the webcam and that other students also saw his video.

In September 2010 Tyler Clementi age 18 years old hurled himself from the George Washington Bridge in the New York City area after learning that Ravi had set up a webcam in their dorm room and captured him in an intimate encounter with a date.

A few days later he killed himself after updating his Facebook status to read: "Jumping off the gw bridge, sorry."

Jury found him guilty of

1. witness tampering

2. invasion of privacy

3. tampering of evidence

4. hindering apprehension or prosecution

5. bias intimidation

What is bias intimidation?
Desire to target because of orientation like sexual orientation, a hate crime known as bias intimidation that carries up to a 10-year prison term.

His suicide made the case a national case because of this
President Obama and other law makers from New Jersey took the action and
drew up anti-bullying legislation.

If same thing happens in India just think how many years our politicians will take to pass the law.

May be next 64 years they will keep debating?

One of the problem in India is that our law making gives more importance to religion and not to freedom of humans, human rights and votes.
