Ex Telecom Minister Sukhram Convicted in corruption case after 15 Years

Currently Sukhram is 84 Years old.
In 2002, he was awarded a three-year jail term under the Prevention of Corruption Act in a case that caused a loss of Rs.1.66 crore to the state exchequer that is he caused loss to the every citizen of India.

Case – In 2002 he got punishment for causing a loss of Rs 1.66 crore to public exchequer in award of a contract to a Hyderabad-based firm, Advance Radio Masts for supplying some equipment to the government in collusion with the firm Managing Director Rama Rao.



In 2009, Sukhram was held guilty of possessing disproportionate assets worth Rs.4.25 crore.

Delhi Court found Sukhram guilty of misusing his official position when he was in the P V Narasimha Rao cabinet and giving undue favor to a cable supply company.

Sukhram is currently on out on bail.

1996 –
Telecom Ministry under Sukhram had awarded private firm Haryana Telecom Limited (HTL) a contract worth Rs 30 crore to supply 3.5 Lakh Conductor Kilometers (LCKM) of Polythene Insulated Jelly Filled (PIJF) cables to the telecom department.

In this case another accused HTL chairman Devinder Singh Choudhary died during the trial.

The CBI, in its charge sheet had accused Sukh Ram of allegedly showing undue favor in supply of excess quantity of cable and acceptance of Rs.3 lakh.


Special Judge R P Pandey said that "It is a matter of common knowledge that it is virtually impossible to get any direct evidence where both i.e. bribe giver and the person who takes the bribe, worked in joint concert,"

In his order Judge said that Sukhram also obtained (illegal) gratification other than legal remunerations from Choudhary as a motive or reward for showing the favor to the said firm (HTL),"

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special judge R.P. Pandey said: ‘The accused (Sukh Ram) is convicted under various provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act and section 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code.’

Sukhram has been convicted for the offences which entail a maximum punishment of seven years imprisonment.

In next hearing Judge will announce the sentence to Sukhram.

Now again Sukhram will file appeal in this case and then again he will file appeal
He will fight the case up to Supreme Court of India.

Currently he is 84 Years of old another accused died when case was going on.

What is the use of declaring and finalizing the final punishment after the death of accused?

Justice delayed is justice denied.

We need fast track court for the Corruption cases and Super Super Super fast track court for the cases in which Politicians, law makers are involved.
