2G scam – CBI Filed FIR against former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran and his brothers Kickbacks Rs.800 Crore
Mr. Maran was Telecom Minister from 2004 to 2007.
In connection with 2G scam On Monday CBI raided the former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran's residence
The CBI conducted searches in Chennai, Hyderabad and Delhi.
An FIR was registered against the Maran brothers - Dayanidhi Maran, Kalanidhi
Maran, Ralph Marshall and T Anandakrishnan on under the Prevention of Corruption Act
Mr. Ananda Krishnan owns the group Maxis. The FIR names him
Three companies are named in the FIR - Maxis, Astro and Sun TV. Astro was used by Mr. Ananda Krishnan's group to invest in Sun TV.
CBI thinks that kickbacks of almost Rs 600 crore to 800 Crore were given to Maran brothers after the favor to Maxis Group.
CBI thinks that Maran deliberately delayed the licences to Aircel and that he did
undue favor to Maxis and in return investments were made by the company in Sun TV,
which is a sister concern of Astro Netwrok, a company owned by one of the Maran
brothers Ralph Marshall.
The CBI says that in return, Mr. Ananda Krishnan invested close to Rs. 800 crore in Dayanidhi's Sun Networks.
In 2005 Sunita Reddy was chairperson of the chairperson of Aircel.
the CBI also conducted raids at Apollo Group's Sunita Reddy's residence.
The raids were being conducted in connection with the Aircel-Maxis deal.

It is a crime committed a few years back. CBI is acting now. The point is why now?
The government is doing big things in telecom areas. Portability, zero roaming charges are some of the areas we are aware of. Maybe there are big business understandings to happen in telecom.
It is immature and foolish to connect these two. But there may be a connection.
It might be create fear in Marans and cut their business chances.
