1.International Mobile Telecommunications-2000 (IMT-2000) standards is known as 3 G or 3rd generation technology.

2.3G or 3rd Generation, is a family of standards for mobile telecommunications defined by the International Telecommunication Union



3 G standard include UMTS, and CDMA2000 as well as the non-mobile wireless standards DECT and WiMAX. UMTS is the common name for a standard that encompasses multiple air interfaces. 3 G is also known as FOMA.

4.High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) is an enhanced 3G (third generation) mobile telephony communications protocol in the High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) family, also known as 3.5G, 3G+ or turbo 3G, which allows networks based on Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) to have higher data transfer speeds and capacity.

5.3 G allows the use of audio and video services at the same time.

6. 3g standards offer the data speed of 14.0 Mbit/s on the downlink and 5.8 Mbit/s on the uplink. And minimum guaranteed speed is 200 kbit/s

7.Commercially First time 3G was launched in Japan by NTT DoCoMo on 1 October 2001

18.This month Indian Government started the 3g auction for private telecom companies so 3g will be available to more Indians from December 2010 offering full benefits of 3g.

19.Tata DoCoMo, a tie-up between Tata and Japan’s NTT DoCoMo claims that the company’s GSM mobile network is already 3G-ready. Which means that if Tata DoCoMo wins the 3G auction, Tata will be able to launch 3G services faster than other operators

Thanks so much for this info. I recently purchased a Nokia handset. It has everything except the support for 3G :(
